Prof. D.B.Z. Ntuli has made an outstanding contribution to the development of literature in African languages, particularly in his mother tongue, isiZulu. He was twenty one years old  when he published his first  book, a novel entitled UBheka. Thereafter he produced works in various genres – prose, poetry, essays and drama. Ntuli features prominently in the writing of radio plays. He earned invaluable experience in this medium when he worked as a writer and producer in the drama section of the then Radio Bantu. He has never stopped writing since the publication of his first book over sixty years ago. His works appear in over 50 titles which he authored or co-authored or edited; this is apart from the numerous short and long (serial) radio plays. His latest set of short radio plays,  Izinkanyezi zezulu, was broadcast from June until  August  2024. Apart from the quantity of his output, his creativity is generally regarded as phenomenal as it is evident from its positive reception by the community and scholars of literature.
